Governor Hickenlooper Vetoes SB213 to Safeguard Coverage for Thousands of Colorado’s Children

We applaud Governor Hickenlooper for vetoing SB11-213, which would have created monthly premiums for some children enrolled in the Child Health Plan Plus and resulted in the loss of health care coverage for thousands of Colorado children.

Stable health care coverage is crucial to helping kids grow up healthy. It increases the likelihood that they will receive important preventive care and gives working parents the peace of mind that their children will get the care they need when they are sick or hurt.

As Colorado families deal with the lingering effects of the recession, it is more important than ever that we maintain our commitment to providing stable health coverage for our kids. We thank Governor Hickenlooper for vetoing this bill and his commitment to ensure that Colorado’s kids have access to affordable health care. Thanks to the hard work of Colorado leaders we are making real progress toward getting all kids in Colorado the health insurance they need to grow up to be strong, healthy adults.
